The Spirulina culture is going strong. Today it was fed, watered and exercised. Now, we just leave it to do its thing for a while.
The Spirulina culture is resting and getting used to the place.
Today marks the start of a new experiment in fun and nutrition. The Spirulina culture has arrived.
The cold and the lack of sunlight is killing off the algae in the bioreactor.
Ive added a solar garden light to extend the hours of light to see if I can pick it up a little.
Step 2 in making the bioreactor. Now the algae has settled into the tanks, I have added airlines and a 12V airpump to introduce a steady airflow.
The airlines are weighted down to the bottom of the tanks with pieces of rusty iron. My thinking with this is that this will keep a supply of iron available to the algae for chlorophyll production. Having this supply near the airflow will ensure good circulation.
The pump is running from some old D batteries I was thinking of trashing. It also has a 12V car battery input thst I will modify to take a small solar panel in stage 3.
Breeding up algae for the biotreactor and duckweed for the aquaponics set up I am in the planning stages of.
