Lillies

Many of the Lilly family flower in Spring. Generally, they are all used for their flowers and tubers which were roasted over coals for a tasty potato like meal. I’ve made a general list of the most common here but some have their own pages on this site.

Some of the more common varieties that can be eaten are –

Black Anther Flax Lily  ( Dianella revoluta)

Blue Grass Lily  (Caesia vittata)

Bulbine Lily (Bulbine bulbosa)

Chocolate Lily (Arthropodium strictum)

Nodding Chocolate Lily (Arthropodium fibratum)

Early Nancy (Wurmbea dioica)

Golden Stars (Hypoxis species)

Milkmaids (Burchardia umbellata)

Yam Daisy (Microseris species)

Twining Fringed Lily (Thysanotis patersonii)

Yacca (Xanthorrhoea species)
