If you read the last post, you’ll know that we’re stepping up our game. I’ve started by updating the page that explains how to use the herb pages in a better way. It’s a section at the top of both the Garden Herbs and Wild Herbs pages. Well, not at the very top but under the pic… I won’t be adding it to the Bushfoods and Bush Medicines page for a while yet because they take a completely different perspective.
It’s a called ‘Using the herb monographs‘. I used to call them ‘herb pages’ but thought this sounded a bit more spiffy.
It’s a more gentle way to approach each herb in its totality, while still including as much information as I can shoehorn into each section. There’s better overviews, more detailed Traditional Chinese Medicine crossovers. Where I can I’m integrating Bach Flower Essences and Tissue Salts that relate to the herb.
There’s more detailed contraindications and drug interactions too. They’re not there to scare folks but there to help us understand that herbs are (at least) as powerful as industrial pharmaceuticals and interactions may happen in either direction. It’s not just a modern thing; some herbs have been found to be inappropriate in some conditions for a long time now. This section helps us think about the concept the not every herb suits everybody and not everybody suits each herb. By extending this thinking into industrial medicine, I hope that that message is carried over to the choices we make for our pharmaceuticals. I’m not against folks using pharmaceuticals, I take a few each day to improve my own life, but if we take the herbal approach to choosing them, we can all be healthier for it.
All of the changes haven’t been applied to every herb yet – that’s a massive job that will take some time!
Another great thing is that I’ve nearly finished my herbalist qualification course, so will be able to ditch those pesky disclaimers very soon! I’m most of the way through the last unit, so wish me luck!
If you’re here for the herbs, ‘Using the herb monographs‘ is a great place to start!
