Changing tack

Hi everyone. You’re probably used to me changing things around on this website and I’m at it again!

I’ve been thinking a lot of late about the wealth of knowledge and experience that we have here and that it makes me a bit sad that more people aren’t accessing it. As you know, we’re not after the $$$, but I feel that nowadays, more than ever before, it is important get this info out into the wider world. So, this isn’t a money grab or an attention grab in the usual internet sense, its an outreach and a restructuring for posterity.

I’m looking at integrating ethics and activism, bioregionalism, climate change adaption and a few more. Community, herbalism and food security will still be our key focus, that’s not going to change. You can see the beginnings of it all upstairs at the top of the page in the new menu layout.

For ages now, Ligaya Garden Online has been a diary; a record; an archive, if you will, of our adventures in finding a more ethical and generative way of living. Now, I reckon its time to integrate it all into a slightly more organised pile, with consistent themes running through the pages and our workshops. Up until now, its all generated itself pretty randomly, depending on what has happened and how I felt. That’ll still happen and the friendly, accessible writing and photography will still roll from my fingertips. The difference will be in the navigability and clarity of the information. There’s a whole new range of plugins for WordPress that will make it easier to do what I’ve always wanted with the layout and design but have needed a few $K to achieve it by rolling it all over onto a personal website. That’s something for the future, but I want to nail this first. Some of the tools are based on AI integration (there’s no escaping it), so it will be a dance between convenience and authenticity (if you’ve been with us for a while, you will know that authenticity always wins here).

Anywhere where research or design has been assisted by AI will be labelled and I’m working on a way to list all of the resources used by the integrated AI models- thing like power usage, water usage, CO2 generated, where the data centre used was (many data centres are built on land taken from Indigenous custodians or in areas where marginalised and minority communities live). I’m hoping that this effort towards transparency will rub off on other people.

Rest assured though that the concepts here are all ours, images will all be taken or created by us and the text and information will all be written by yours truly. Nothing will change in that area, its all very personal to us and we want to keep it that way. I’ve had offers to buy the website but …NO WAY! It belongs to our family and community.

So, if you feel that you can’t find a favourite page or bit of information, don’t panic, very little is actually going to be removed, it’ll mostly be being integrated with other stuff. If you want to find something, get in touch and ask and I’ll guide you to its new home.

This is the time to bring it all together and bring it home. Your support has helped us to get to this stage and we love you for it.
