Hanging cabbages for the chooks

We’re always trying to find ways to keep the chooks fed and entertained.

A friend suggested hanging whole cabbages or lettuces for them to peck at. We didn’t have any whole ones but there were lots of leaves in the box of veggie scraps that I picked up yesterday from Ni at Buckland Park.

I got a sturdy hanging pot hook and threaded various leaves onto it and hung it from the Apple tree in the run.

I kicked Demeter out of the nesting box (she’s broody at present) and after a few undignified squawks, got right into the game.

It took a few minutes of wary circling and tentative pecks but soon enough, the girls except for Yurei were getting right into it.

I think we’re onto a winner!
