I’ve not often promoted our workshops on this website before. To be honest, I’m not good at promoting stuff at all but we have to live and learn. So from now on, I’ll be letting everyone know about upcoming talks, tours, walks and workshops on this, our new Events page.
If an event that we are offering is being held by another organisation (e.g. The Precinct), I’ll link you through to the event via their favourite bookings page. (usually Eventbrite or Humantix) For those held by us directly, you’ll be able to pay through this website when payments are required. We don’t like Eventbrite because Jelina was scammed out of a couple of hundred bucks by them a few years back.
Numbers
Ligaya Garden is a physically small space, second, we want to provide folks with the best, most personal experience we can, whether it is out in the field foraging mushrooms or on the bench, making herbal remedies.
Because of this, we will only be providing a limited number of spaces. In general, we will hold space for 5 people for workshops at Ligaya Garden and 10-15 for field trips.
We don’t have as much control over numbers at events held by organisations we support but they are usually encouraged to keep the numbers small(ish).
Supporter support

We love our supporters, so folks who support Ligaya Garden through regular paid subscriptions will get in to 1 events held directly by us. Any donation will get you free entry to one event. The same applies to anyone who donates to our little, private charity, Sunray.
I can’t extend the same courtesy to events run through other groups because they have their own ways of doing things.
Pricing – a sliding scale
We acknowledge that folks have different levels of access to resources, hell, we’ve been to the wall ourselves a few times so completely understand people’s needs when it comes to paying for events. We are in the process of working out a sliding scale for payments depending on your ability to pay. It will be divided roughly into 4 tiers – pay it forward, well resourced, average, poorly resourced but we’ve yet to set price points. It’ll be an honesty based system and we won’t be asking for any kind of proof or documentation – you know what you’re worth and, well, it’s your Karma. However, please remember that places will always be limited and if you’re loaded but tell us you’re struggling financially, then you’ll be doing someone who is really struggling out of a place because we’ll take you at your word and let you in for a reduced rate, if not free.
Also, please note: we won’t ever say how much you paid for the event. Once you’re ‘in the door’, we’re all equals. If you discuss it amongst yourselves, that’s fine.
Events run through other organisations will be set at their prices but we always ask for a free place or two to be held for folks doing it tough.
Pay it forward
One of the ideas that I found is to have a ‘pay it forward’ tier. This is a higher priced tier that includes an amount that will sponsor someone else to attend the event. Each pay it forward ticket won’t pay for a whole place but you will be contributing towards someone else being able to attend. We will not tell the recipient that you have paid towards their attendance.
Inclusivity
Ligaya Garden is a safe space for everyone. We freely invite anyone of any colour creed or gender preference. It’s all fine by us. There have to be exceptions though to protect vulnerable folks, so folks from openly racist groups, neo-nazis or any kind of supremacists are unwelcome.
If you are uncomfortable with folks with different accents, skin tones or gender/sexual preferences, please keep in mind when booking, that there may be folks from those groups present.
