  • Volunteer beauty

Flowers from the volunteer peas that grew from the pea straw I used to make the straw bale beds a few months ago.

  • Car park salad greens.

Wild mustard and thistles. They will make a good salad starter. I found them next to a carpark in town.

  • Gourmet carpark mushrooms.

Mushrooms growing in a carpark close to the centre of town. I’m not sure what kind these are, but remember having eaten them before.

  • Rosehips in time for cold and flu season.

Rosehips are around this time of the year, and appropriately, are full of vitamin C.

  • Keeping compost hot.

Bagging the compost bin against cold winds and inclement weather. A garbage bag helps to trap daytime temperature as well as stop the wind while being loose enough to allow air to move around the compost. It’s a cheap and efficient way to improve the efficiency of the composting process.
