a little garden near Gawler
Ngarrindjeri Elder, Aunty Ellen Trevorrow and the indefatigable Jelina Haines are great friends and co-researchers in the field of Indigenous Knowledge.
Together, they have authors the research paper ‘Video ethnographic documentation of stories and cultural practices with Indigenous Elders’.
They have been accepted by the organisers of the ASIST&T conference in Canada to present their paper.
Unfortunately, UniSA aren’t helping with funds and other organisations (including the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and Reconciliation, Kyam Maher) have been approached for grants and funding to no avail.
Not surprisingly, this determined and enterprising duo are attempting to raise enough funds for at least one of them to make it to Vancouver to present their paper.
On the 17th of September, they are holding a fund raising film night at the Gawler Cinemas. The film to be shown is the new Winnie-the-Pooh movie, Christopher Robin.
Food and drink will be supplied and a raffle will be held with amazing prizes from local businesses and individuals. Jelina has been moved to tears several times by the generosity of our local community in donating raffle prizes.
Here’s the link to the Gofundme page for their event if you would like to donate –
